“So excuse me Mr. but I'm a mister too
and you're givin' Mr. a bad name,
Mr. Like you.
So I'm taking the Mr. from out in front of your name,
'cause it's a Mr. like you that puts the rest of us to shame.”
- Ben Harper, from his song “Excuse Me Mr.”[1]
We have about ten years to turn things around with climate change,
said the scientist to the elephants in India
“washed away by surging rivers as floods wreak havoc in Kerala.”[2]
It takes time to fill out the form and process the paperwork,
said the bankster to the neonicotinoided bees, but
dead,
they didn’t hear.

Climate preparedness is our top priority,
the politician didn’t say,
clicking his briefcase closed
before heading out for vacation
on a tax-free, offshore island.

Oh say can you CO2 by the dawn’s early light,
chanted the environmentalist, but
the dams, sacred sites, ley lines, “and the wind cries Mary”[3]

Climate is the primate in the boardroom
but the guy in the gorilla suit
ain’t so funny anymore.

What would be funny AND save lives
is a gorilla in a three-piece-suit
in every corporate boardroom.
