And as his strength failed him at length

He met a pilgrim shadow

'Shadow' - said he - 'Where can it be'

'This land of Eldorado?'

    - from the song “Eldorado”, lyrics by Donovan Leitch
 and Edgar Allen Poe

Butterflies . . . Avocados . . . Almonds . . . Water . . .

Each a living-energy yet commodity-gold in the eyes of those with dollar-$ign$ in their irises.

$$ could be an update abbreviation to reflect both the business-corporate side of the infamous Schutzstaffel, known as the SS, and the current greed for profit at the expense of others.

First some snippets of history:
“Auschwitz was the largest mass extermination factory in human history, but the concentration camp was only an appendix. The main project was IG Auschwitz, a 100% subsidiary of IG Farben, the largest industrial complex of the world for manufacturing synthetic gasoline and rubber for the conquest of Europe. On April 14, 1941, in Ludwigshafen, Otto Armbrust, the IG Farben board member responsible for the Auschwitz project, stated to his IG Farben board colleagues, 'our new friendship with the SS is a blessing. We have determined all measures integrating the concentration camps to benefit our company.'” [1]
“The SS was the organization most responsible for the genocidal killing of an estimated 5.5 to 6 million Jews and millions of other victims in the Holocaust. Members of all of its branches committed war crimes and crimes against humanity during World War II (1939–45). The SS was also involved in commercial enterprises and exploited concentration camp inmates as slave labor.” [2]
The madness's partner-in-crime was calculated big-business practices.

Also during World War II . . . precious metal from Nazi concentration camps and death camps, property from victims, for examples, wedding rings, eye glasses, pocket watches, cigarette cases, jewellery and gold teeth...

Homero Gómez González, the Superman of Monarch Butterflies

Commodity-gold
Homero Gómez González was “one of central Mexico’s most prominent defenders of the region’s monarch butterfly population.” Sadly, “Gómez González was found floating in a well near the butterfly sanctuary he had spent decades working to preserve...” Though not conclusive, “loggers and criminal groups” are suspected.[3]

“Mayte Cardona, spokesperson for the Human Rights State Commission of Michoacan, told Reuters, 'He was probably hurting the (business) interests of people illegally logging in the area.'

“'Relatives of Mr. Gómez told local media that the conservationist had received threats from an organized crime gang," BBC News reported Wednesday.

“Michoacan, as Reuters previously reported, is a state 'long convulsed by turf wars between drug gangs.' The Los Angeles Times also reported in November:
“Mexico's multibillion-dollar avocado industry, headquartered in Michoacan state, has become a prime target for cartels, which have been seizing farms and clearing protected woodlands to plant their own groves of what locals call 'green gold.'”[4]
Adding to the suspicions, more sad news:
“A second person tied to a famed butterfly sanctuary in Mexico was found dead Saturday, sparking fear and outcry that the men may have been targeted for their environmental work, local media reported. Raúl Hernández Romero, a tour guide at the monarch butterfly sanctuary in the state of Michoacán, was found dead early Saturday, having suffered apparent injuries from a sharp object, El Uniersal reported, citing state prosecutors.”[5]

In another case, concerning the almond milk industry: “mega-farms in California’s fertile Central Valley, [are] home to 80% of the world’s almond supply.” Almond milk has become a huge alternative (one of many) to dairy.

“Beekeepers attributed the high mortality rate to pesticide exposure, diseases from parasites and habitat loss. However, environmentalists and organic beekeepers maintain that the real culprit is something more systemic: America’s reliance on industrial agriculture methods, especially those used by the almond industry, which demands a large-scale mechanization of one of nature’s most delicate natural processes.”[6]

Then there's the true fuel of life, Water, nicknamed blue gold:
“‘Biggest Loss of Clean Water Protection the Country Has Ever Seen’: Trump Guts Safeguards for US Streams and Wetlands”[7]

Annie Jacobsen, in her book Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program That Brought Nazi Scientists To America, notes some of what foreshadowed the likes of Agent Orange used against the Vietnamese: a “biological weapons division” used by the Nazis whose aims were “antiplant,... antiman, and antianimal. Antianimal weapons were aimed at killing entire animal populations, with the goal of starving to death the people who relied on those animals for food.”[8]

Physical gold
And gold, itself, has long been part of the search for wealth and domination.

Gold rushes:
  • Minas Gerais - Brazil, 18th century.
  • Colorado, Georgia, California, Black Hills (Paha Sapa sacred to the Lakota Nations) - USA early to mid-19th century and later.
  • Australia mid-19th century, displacing the Aborigines.
  • Africa 19th century, to name a few.
Gold discovered in Georgia in 1829; in 1830 the Indian Removal Act -- any connection?

Gold discovered in the Black Hills and the USA abandons the Treaty of Fort Laramie (also called the Sioux [Lakota] Treaty of 1868). Definite connection.

The list goes on . . . The  search for Eldorado mesmer-eyes-ing people so they lose their vision minds for a souvenir trinket of Mother Earth . . .  but Her scars remember.

Fossil fuel is the current justifiable enemy number one of climate activists, and if, as the ad slogan goes “America runs on Dunkin'” then the world runs on fossil fuel. Yet by fixating on that commodity, a wider view is missed. ANY thing, ANY living-being can become commodity-gold in the eyes of those with heartless dollar-$ign$ in their irises. Until the lack of vision is changed and/or more people are able to protect plants, animals, human beings, and all living forms, more traumas for fool's good can be expected.

“'The bees in the almond groves are being exploited and disrespected,” says Patrick Pynes, an organic beekeeper who teaches environmental studies at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. 'They are in severe decline because our human relationship to them has become so destructive.'”[9]

As with any friendship, relationship skills are a must.
