Aunt Jemima bites the dust, the racist stereotype
suddenly causing corporate chagrin
but what of the butchered bloodied heads
of the capital city, Washington Redskins?*
 
And what if a team called the New York Burnt-Jews
to commemorate the Nazi holocaust;
when a People commodified for sport
all sense of human dignity lost.
 
Towards the Black, the mea culpas worthy gestures
the intersectionality of business and woke
but unless we go Rainbow these color-coded terror alerts
a branding cosmetic ignoring choke(hold).
 
At the public squares and traffic circles
topplings of the statues of limitations
for too-long revering the heartless heads
who slaved and pillaged foreign nations.
 
But here’s a warning tough to swallow―
1960s civil rights also led to institutionalized incarceration,
so where things going nowadays
with the budding re-emancipation...?
 
The People have certainly paid their dues,
the country no longer on cruise control
yet change not simply from prayers in pews,
yet change not simply from feats in streets
got to work through the ruse of mind and social control.
