Radical Coup-Mongering Opposition Parties spring a surprise and announce that they will now participate in the November 21 Mega-Elections Printer friendly page Print This

After years of refusing to participate in any level of election in Venezuela on the basis of “invented” pretexts such as:
  • crying fraud before elections had even taken place
  • criticizing the National Elections Council (CNE) of being biased and “Chavista”
  • destroying electoral centers and even worse
  • telling their own supporters not to vote on election day

The four radical right-wing anti-chavista parties that compromise the so-called G4, announced on August 31, that they would participate in the November 21 regional Mega-Elections for state governors, mayors, state legislators and town councilors.

The four parties concerned are Democratic Action (AD), First Justice Party (PJ), A New Time (UNT) and Popular Will (VP). But why this sudden change of strategy to submit themselves to the vote instead of trying to overthrow the Maduro government by assassinating him, organizing paid mercenaries to invade the country, calling on the US to mount a full-scale invasion. or by destroying the economy and social fabric of the nation through unilateral coercive sanctions and a financial blockade imposed primarily by the US and in part by the EU?

The answer has not been spoken out loud by anyone even though President Maduro himself congratulated these parties for rejoining the democratic path in a live TV broadcast on August 31.

Some thoughts on this “Transformation”
Our analysis is as follows: the G4 are represented in the negotiations taking place in Mexico City that resumed on Friday September 3. At the preliminary meeting between the Venezuelan government and the Unitary National Platform (as the G4 denominated its new umbrella organization), a legally binding document was signed, with the Kingdom of Norway as the facilitating country of these negotiations, as co-signatory. The key points in the text of this document were:
  • the G4 would renounce violence
  • recognize the Maduro government and existing state powers
  • and, finally, that any agreement would be framed within the edicts of the 1999 Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The agreement was ratified unanimously by Venezuela’s National Assembly and so to all intents and purposes it means that negotiations will take place within a framework that guarantees peace and a return to democracy in Venezuela by curtailing violent street protests that wracked the East of Caracas for almost four months in 2017.

Now that the radical opposition had recognized the state powers which include the National Electoral Council (CNE), it could now participate in the upcoming November elections as any other maneuvers had effectively been shut out by the signing of the agreement in Mexico City.

The G4 is really the US
The G4 is effectively the political face of the US in Venezuela’s internal politics as these four parties are financed by USAID, NED and probably the State Department and hence take their orders from Secretary of State, Antony Blinken. There is no way that these political sell-outs of the G4 would cut their financial umbilical cord with the US and so would have received instructions to sign the agreement in Mexico City and then to announce their participation in the November elections.

The main indication of this change in strategy from their paymasters in Washington was a declaration made by Henry Ramos Allup, veteran leader of one of the factions of the Democratic Action Party who said (more or less) on August 31:
“In line with the United States and the International Community ( meaning the EU and the almost defunct Lima Group), Democratic Action will field candidates in the November elections”.
Any G4 candidates will, in effect, be candidates of the US and its imperialist allies still hell bent on taking control of Venezuela and its oil, gold and mineral wealth as well as eking out any signs of Chavismo in the country. The members of these parties, the G4, are traitors to their homeland and at the flip of a coin or a phone call to Juan Guaidó, changed tack and are suddenly and conveniently back on the road to democracy in Venezuela.

This is hard to believe unless your primary news source is on social media which is characterized by fake news and outright lies. The people at the front of the G4 are the same people that have tried for 20 years to overthrow the Chavista government.

With economic sanctions called for by these traitorous politicians and the devastating results on hunger and the death of at least 40,000 (some UN studies put it at 100,000) innocent Venezuelans between 2017 and 2020 due to the impossibility to buy medicines and offer integral medical care to the infirm, it would seem completely incongruent for these men to be let off Scot free with so much blood on their hands.

We are certain that there will be more twists and turns in this tragic political saga but in the meantime the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and its nine allied parties in the Gran Polo Patriotico must work, day and night, to prevent candidates from the G4 being elected and slotting into power anywhere in the national territory of Venezuela.
