The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, pointed out Saturday, during an interview with the Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet, that 2021 was the best year in the midst of the economic war.
"The economy with its own strength, the real economy, has taken the path of economic growth (...)" The greatest achievement has been the defense of our economic model, Venezuela is relaunching its economy, promoting growth with opportunities for all and thinking about the more vulnerable”, he asserted.
He stressed that Venezuela has its own economic engines, has economic muscle and industrial and technological capacity, has the knowledge to get ahead with its own engines and replace the old capitalist economy dependent on oil.
He said that in the second semester of 2021 Venezuela achieved economic growth of 7.5%. "By implementing a set of economic measures, we have recovered economic growth and in the second half of 2021 we are experiencing economic growth of 7.5 percent," Maduro explained.
Among the challenges, he considered that "we must continue to be very attentive to the development of the economy and continue to provide facilities so that the internal productive forces continue to be released and to continue controlling all inflationary processes", because "we are closing the year with good news from an inflationary point of view”.
On the other hand, Maduro reviewed that in 2021 the monetary restatement was launched with the elimination of six zeros to the bolivar "and we strengthened from the psychological point of view the handling of the bolivar in a general framework of improvement in the economy."
Similarly, he pointed out that in 2021 the dialogue mechanism with all the country's private sectors was reactivated, which resulted in the fact that “today we have a close relationship with all medium, small and large, national and international sectors. We have a permanent dialogue in the National Council of Productive Economy ”.
President Maduro explained that the economic sanctions terribly hit the economic life of the country, the economic income of the country and therefore the economic income of the State, the working class, the Venezuelan family, the Venezuelan business community.
In oil matters
During the fourth meeting between President Maduro and Ignacio Ramonet, the dignitary reported that in 2021 Venezuela managed to recover the production capacity of the country's four oil refineries, “despite attempts to put bombs on it, to sabotage our refineries with terrorism."
He announced that Venezuela is reaching one million barrels a day of oil production. The goal for 2022 “is to reach 2 million barrels per day, going step by step, recovering production capacity. This year we recovered the production capacity of the four refineries in the country.”
Likewise, President Maduro announced that the country made progress in the recovery of more than 90% of the petrochemical production capacity. "Oil production and the production of the country's refineries, the petrochemical complex and the upgrading complexes were gradually recovered (…) The tariff policy is being recovered, very important as a defense mechanism and promotion and defense of production national. (…) First Venezuela, first our thing to protect the national industry, protect the national producers.”
"It means that the oil refining and petrochemical industry in Venezuela with its own lung, with its own investment, with its own effort, with its own technology, is on a heroic path," he said.
He ratified that Venezuela "is working hard to build an economy that generates goods and services that satisfy the national need, as well as the recovery of the oil industry that will complement the economic development process that the country will experience in the coming years."
When answering about how to overcome the "main node of the national economy", he pointed out that the "generation of monetary wealth should be promoted that allows us to make sufficient investments in the economic apparatus, in the oil apparatus and sufficient investments in the system of social welfare, since the main knot is national income and this is the main point of North American imperialism. What is being done against Venezuela is criminal and cruel.”
He warned leftist and progressive leaders of the region that the experience of Venezuela will remain as the most cruel crimes that have been tried against a people.
“The world must know the persecution that has been. The Venezuelan State cannot have a bank account in the international financial system to pay for vaccines, medicines, raw material inputs, whatever it needs, Venezuela does not have the right to import spare parts, the machinery that its industry needs in general and it has been claimed deny the freedom of trade for its fundamental products.”
Given these extreme conditions, "there is an opportunity to advance on the path of generating wealth with our own efforts," he said.
Venezuela abandons the state of hyperinflation as a result of sanctions
"Today I can declare that Venezuela is leaving the state of hyperinflation as a result of the economic war and sanctions," stressed Maduro.
The Venezuelan president stated that the country is taking an important step, "entering the year 2022 well, which will combine important elements of growth, slowing inflation, generating wealth that will become health, education, salary, income and social happiness, which translates into a transition towards a completely rewarding socialist model."
Asked about the measures taken by Venezuela to combat inflation, the president outlined that “Venezuela has always had an inflationary economy, before the economic war, the blockade, the coercive measures, the war economy. An economy with sixty years of oil income and high consumption in the domestic market that always generated an imbalance between the domestic consumption capacity with the production capacity and satisfaction of those needs.
“In addition, we have always had a tendency of the private sector to speculate to obtain the maximum profit. When this period of intense war came to crush Venezuela, the economic measures made the Venezuelan State lose 99% of its income,” recalled the President.
“We spent a day from obtaining a hundred dollars to obtaining a dollar, we spent a day from obtaining 54 billion dollars in a year to last year's income of 600 million dollars, for the persecution against oil, the hijacking of bank accounts. They stole more than 30 billion dollars from us abroad, due to the theft and kidnapping of our CITGO company, Monómeros company, it is brutal, it is an atomic bomb against the country,” he denounced.
“There was no income. That had a tremendous impact on the ability of the State to regulate the foreign exchange market and a tremendous impact of the hyperinflation that was positioned in Venezuela," he said, explaining that the way to combat it (inflation) was social protection through the System Carnet de la Patria, the Local Supply and Production Committees (CLAP), Misiones and Grandes Misiones, accompanied by monetary and economic measures.
Maduro said that Venezuela is shaping up to deepen the fight against the bases of inflation and to increase the production capacity of food, goods and services so that the supply capacity balances the demand or exceeds it.
"The other thing is to raise national income. National income allows us to govern and satisfy the exchange market and fully control the inflationary processes generated by the movement of the dollar within the country," he argued.
“We have managed to stabilize with this exchange system everything that was the dollar that was soaring in the country, it has managed to stabilize and I have great hope that in 2022 we can continue to govern the new exchange system that the country has, according to the economic scheme."
