has eyes on the ground in Donbass. Our contact is not safe - and is
currently ill - but what follows are the notes she has sent to me. Some
of what she writes is hearsay from locals, some observed herself. All
her comments are unedited (with minor editing of grammar/spelling).
Despite her illness, she will try to give us as much local reporting as
she can.
For her safety, she will not be named. We'll just call her Correspondent. See News From the Front - 1 here. See News from the Front -2 here. - prh, ed.

The Russian military continues launching strikes using air and sea-based cruise missiles on the military infrastructure of Ukraine.
In total, the Russian Armed Forces hit 821 objects of the Ukrainian military infrastructure.
While Russia's Ministry of Defense gives detailed information about the numbers of shot-down aircraft or destroyed tanks and other military assets, there is no information about the human losses. They emphasize that the purpose of the Russian special operation is to destroy the military infrastructure and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with minimum losses on both sides.
It seems like Russia is attempting to surround or block cities, but not to establish new administrations. Moreover, Putin has appealed to the Ukrainian military to take power into their own hands.
In Odessa, according to rumors, an uncontrolled distribution of weapons also took place, as in Kiev. The figures for Kiev are more than 20 thousand units. One can already observe the results of this "wise" decision. A "suspicious" car with an innocent family was shot and a hunt for "suspicious people" has begun. It's scary to imagine what this will turn in to.
The police in Kiev tried to catch the saboteurs, but they caught SBU officers instead who, in turn, also were trying to catch the saboteurs.
But the good news is that the warehouse in Kiev, where weapons were handed out without any control, was destroyed. Too late - the Monkey's Got a Hand Grenade.
In the meantime, Russian military equipment approaches the city of Energodar. The huge Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is located there.
Nikolaev (this is a shipyard) is surrounded. So far, it's quiet, according to residents. In 2014, there was strong resistance to the new regime, but it was quickly suppressed.
Mariupol (a port on Azov sea) has not been taken over yet. So if there was different info in my previous report, correct it, please. [Correction made in News From the Front - 2 - prh, ed.] But Russian troops have occupied the nearest settlement to Mariupol and they are surrounding the city.
This is the scene around Mariupol.
Here is an interesting video [video unavailable for viewing from my location but it may be from other locations - prh, ed.]. Ukrainian soldiers - 82 border guards who were on Zmeiny Island in the Black Sea - voluntarily laid down their arms and surrendered to the Russian military. They are all alive and well. We can see how they receive dry rations and bottled water, and then head to the waiting buses. None of them need medical attention.
See here to determine if you are able to view the video.
