Ministry of People’s Power of Foreign Affairs

STATEMENT

As it has been reported by national and international media, the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez Frías, is in the midst of a strict process of recovery and medical treatment.

For this reason, the Venezuelan government, after discussions with the governments of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, has taken the decision to postpone the Third Summit of Latin America and the Caribbean on Integration and Development (CALC) that was scheduled to take place on July 5-6, 2011 on Margarita Island, Venezuela.

The Bolivarian government led by President Chávez reiterates its gratitude to the brother governments of Latin America and the Caribbean which, having confirmed their high-level participation in the summit, made this regional gathering a historic and transcendental moment at the height of the bicentennial celebrations of our republics.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has worked with the countries of the region, through the regular means of consultation, to propose a new date for the realization of this summit of the greater Latin American and Caribbean  fatherland in Venezuela during the second semester of 2011, where the objective will be to bring into  function the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), an organization for the consolidation of the unity and independence of our people.

Ministerio del Poder Popular para Relaciones Exteriores

COMUNICADO
